Justine’s signing with baby class

Course Description
Signing with Baby classes and workshops will teach parents and caregivers how to use sign language to empower their babies with communication skills. Preverbal babies can learn to use their hands to communicate long before they develop the necessary motor skills for speech. Using Joseph Garcias SIGN with your BABY program as a guide, parents are introduced to American Sign Language (ASL).

The workshops are aimed at parents and caregivers. You will learn to incorporate signing into your child’s daily routine and how to sign or revise various everyday signs with your child. The weekly sessions offer parents and child a playful environment to learn sign through songs, storytelling and play.

Studies show that using sign language with your hearing baby can:
-Enable communication at an earlier age
-Reduce frustration for both babies and parents
-Help avoid ’terrible twos’
-Provide a window into your child’s mind and personality
-Deepen the bond between babies and their parents
-Accelerate verbal language development

Presenter Profile
Justine Franks Rudman is a Teacher of the deaf and has taught deaf and special needs children in this country and in her native country, the UK, for over ten years. She is proficient in both ASL and BSL (British Sign Language). She also teaches mom/baby yoga, prenatal and beginner’s yoga in Marin.

As a result of signing with her own son Cody, who is now 4years old, she experienced first-hand the benefits of integrating sign language into his world. Cody puts signs together to express his wants and needs. He loves to communicate his thoughts and observations of the world around him. Having experienced this herself, Justine is eager to teach others the positive benefits of using sign language with their babies and toddlers.
