Sign It, Don’t Whine It!
Reducing communication frustration between little ones and their caregivers

Course Description
CLASSES:
LEVEL 1
In this group of 4 week classes we teach you the benefits of signing, how to recognize when your baby is ready to start signing, and then introduce the first signs of interest to your little one to get you started on the road to early communication.
LEVEL 2
In the next level of classes, along with learning many more new signs of interest to your little one, you’ll learn how signs can help you establish a routine with your little one, and how signs can help children become more actively involved with story-time.
LEVEL 3
This level introduces more sign vocabulary while providing ASL tips and encouraging the importance of play and bonding.
*Through songs, stories, and games, levels 1-3 will introduce you to over 150 signs to help you communicate with your little one.

Presenter Profile
Hi! My name is Amber Grudzien (rhymes with blue jean... just thought I’d help you out with that), and I have been signing for about 8 years now. It all began with sign dictionaries, videos, and deaf clubs when I was in high school, and then in 2005 I graduated with an AAS Degree in Interpreter Education from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. I am a native of SC, but have made deaf friends all over, as well as experienced a good taste of deaf culture while I lived in Southern California for about 18 months among the deaf community there.

For a couple years, while in school, I worked as a careprovider for a deaf/blind young boy and absolutely loved my experience working and signing with him and his family. After graduating from college, I worked for a year as an interpreter for the deaf at Spartanburg Community College here in Spartanburg, SC. I now am a stay-at-home mom and love this job even more!!

Now that I have a little one of my own, we are teaching her sign language and just can’t wait to see her make her first signs. I am excited for her to partipate in the baby sign classes I’ll be teaching. The method I use in my classes is based on the award-winning book Sign with your Baby®, by Dr. Joseph Garcia. How precious these early months are, yet how frustrating (for us AND baby) it is to have to play the guessing game and still sometimes not know what our little ones are thinking or needing. Through his research, Dr. Garcia discovered that infants and their caregivers can begin communication as early as 8 months using signs rather than relying only on speech, which takes many more months to develop. Therefore, in teaching your infant sign language through consistent association with their daily activities, we can reduce the amount of communication frustration and strengthen the bond we share with our baby by helping them communicate needs such as hungry, thirsty, more, hurt (even where it hurts), and many other expressions of need or interest. Infants are intelligent, and helping to feed their minds in this way is a very fun, easy, and rewarding experience. I am excited to combine my love for sign language and children while getting to know you and your little one through music, signing, and fun!
