Sign Buddies - Signing Fun for Families
Sign Language Classes for Families
Our Sign Buddies classes are an introduction to American Sign Language. Parents and children will learn and play together. Signs will be taught and practiced through music, games, and stories. Sign language gives children the ability to communicate long before speech develops. Research shows that babies who use sign language tend to have a stronger command of verbal language and also begin speaking at an earlier age than babies who dont sign.
Barbara Eck-Duchini is a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She is married to Frank, who is Deaf and they are the parents of Alex and Peter. Both boys are hearing and their first language was ASL. They started signing before their first birthdays. Barb graduated from St. Marys School for the Deaf/Canisius College Teacher Preparation Program and also interned at the Infant Hearing Resource Center in Portland, OR.
She now resides in Erie, PA and teaches for the Erie School District in a Hearing Support Class.

Research has shown time and time again that hearing babies who use Sign Language
talk sooner and have larger vocabularies,
have stronger parent/child bonds,
have less frustration, crying and tantrums,
show more interest in books,
engage in more sophisticated play,
have increased IQ scores.
I think one thing you will find at a Sign Buddies class is that it is FUN!
