Sign Babies Classes
Sign Babies classes provide parents and caregivers with additional skills and knowledge to ensure signing success. Sign Babies workshops are held once a week for 4 weeks and cover various topics such as signs for animals, colors, food, family, activities, emotions, questions, numbers and the alphabet. In the classes, we use books, songs, props and toys to create an optimal learning environment.
Classes are a great way to learn more Sign Language and get into the habit of incorporate signing into your daily activities and routines with your baby or toddler.
Nancy Anne Cadjan, M.A. English and Rhetoric
Teaching others about the power of signing has become a mission for me since I witnessed the power it had in my own family. We started signing with my son, Alex, at 7 months. By 10 months, he signed MILK. By 12 months, he signed MILK, MORE, EAT, APPLE, BANANA, BOOK, READ, and SLEEP. Imagine our surprise when Alex signed SLEEP and took daddys hand and led him to his crib. By 16 months, he could sign over 100 words and responded to 100 additional signs for 100. Even more amazing, he could say over 50 words! Signing freed Alex to learn to speak sooner and to learn abstract concepts like letters and numbers. By 17 months, he knew 8 letters and 4 numbers and would seek them out on his own.
I have taught adults and children in both formal academic settings and in informal settings. Bringing the SIGN with your BABYâ„¢ program to parents and children gives me the opportunity to share a skill that transformed our family and created deep bonds between my son, my husband, and myself.
