Signing Babes
communicating with hearing infants and toddlers using Signs

About the Program
Signing Babes is a program that teaches parents, hearing infants and toddlers, family members and caregivers to communicate using a combination of oral language and Signs from American Sign Language.

The program equips parents and caregivers to help their infant or toddler develop expressive language skills even before she can speak, thereby relieving much frustration, and enhancing the child’s overall language development at an earlier age than would otherwise be possible. Ultimately, developing a shared language this early in a child’s life greatly strengthens the bond between the child and family/caregivers.

Goal:
The program is designed to teach a set of specific Signs to babies, toddlers, parents and caregivers so that they can have a common form of communication. Signs, the spoken word and non-verbal gestures are used simultaneously to facilitate communication.

Outcome:
As a result of our goal, children and adults will share a uniquely enhanced relationship, through this communication process.

Presenter Profile
