Presenter Profile
Aloha! My name is Amanda Kaahanui. I have been teaching children and adults for the past 12 years. I became interested in Baby Signs before the birth of my son, Ikaika. We wanted to sign with him because we understood the importance of communcating with your baby before they could speak. At two months, we discovered Ikaika has hearing loss in both ears. Learning to sign took on a whole new dimention for our family. Ikaika also had a tracheostomy tube to help him breath better. It will come out, in time, but until it does, Ikaika cannot vocalise language. Teaching him to sign has allowed him to express himself without fustration. I wanted to help other parents of hearing and hearing impaired, to learn the basics of signing and communicating with their pre-verbal children. Teaching ASL Signs is the opportunity I was looking for. I really believe in signing with children and I look forward to sharing what I have learned with you and your family.
