Let’s Sign, Baby!

Crawl before you Walk, Sign before you Talk

Course Description
Are you looking for a sign language course in Houston, Texas for babies, infants or toddlers? Then you have come to the right place!

As parents and other caregivers, most of us quickly observe that babies can understand what is going on and use their hands long before they develop a verbal language. Through the program I present, you can learn the benefits of teaching sign language to hearing babies, infants and toddlers.

The classes I teach are based on the SIGN with your BABY program by Joseph Garcia, which uses American Sign Language (ASL). This program was developed through his research into early childhood development and experiences with his own son.

In Let’s Sign, Baby! classes, participants will:
Review published benefits of signing with hearing infants;
Practice modeling first signs; and
Discover how to create optimal learning opportunities in daily activities, music and storytime.

Presenter Profile
Hi! My name is Jennifer Thomas, I’m married to a wonderful man named Paul and I have two adorable sons, Aaron (age five years) and Brian (two years old) and a third on the way.

I first developed an interest in ASL while I was in middle school and have studied it as a hobby my entire life including the completion of several ASL courses through the El Paso Center for the Deaf and El Paso Community College.

I worked full-time as an Environmental Engineer, EIT, until becoming a mother in the Spring of 2004 and now thoroughly enjoy being at home with my sons.

I first began teaching Aaron to sign when he was 3 months old and have had so much fun watching him learn and communicate with me. Brian signs now too and it is so wonderful to experience the increased communication.

I am very excited to be a presenter for this program and love helping other parents learn how to communicate with their preverbal children.

Cost, Time, and Duration
Free 1-hour Presentations can be held at a location of your choosing as long as 10 or more participants can be confirmed.

I have recently reorganized the classes I teach and am now offering an eight lesson course which contains all the vocabulary, songs, games, activities, and instructions which you need to begin to teach your child how to communicate with you using ASL.

I prefer to teach this 2 nights a week for 4 weeks and each class lasts one hour. Saturday "crash" courses are also available and typically last 3 hours or more.

Parents are encouraged to bring their babies to the hour long classes, but please keep in mind that many babies find it difficult to sit still for 3-4 hour workshops. Other caregivers can attend classes with parents for an additional fee. Arrangements can be made for missing classes due to vacations or illnesses and payment plans are available.

If you are interested in hosting a full class in your home or a private session, please contact me! I do these often and always enjoy the small class size. Those who organize a private class with others receive a discount on the class and other products purchased.

Next Class
Due to my pregnancy, I don't have any classes scheduled right now, but would be willing to teach anyone interested if you host it in your home and get some friends to come also.

To find out about other upcomming classes in the Houston area, or if you have any questions at all, contact Jennifer at 713-962-7712 or at
